Rafał Rogusz

Principal Solicitor

Rafal is the Principal Solicitor of Benefit Legal Lawyers since September 2015.

Rafal commenced his career as a lawyer in Poland after graduating with a Masters Degree in International Public Law in 2009 at University of Szczecin.

In Australia, Rafal graduated with a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Technology in Sydney. Rafal has been admitted to practice as a Solicitor in 2013 and employed as litigation lawyer in other market-leading law firms servicing the Sydney community before establishing Benefit Legal Lawyers. Rafal has acted for clients in various matters involving personal injury, family disputes, commercial litigation and estate and wills disputes.

Rafal is highly recommended and complimented by clients for his high academic merit and his ability to work efficiently in their matters which can be complex and challenging.

Rafal’s desire has always been to share his passion in understanding your needs and to put his best efforts in ensuring that you obtain the best possible outcome in your matter.

Rafal is also a Public Notary.

Esther Ihn

Solicitor

Esther obtained a double degree in Law and Business from the University of Technology in Sydney and was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW in 2014.

Esther has been working in the legal industry for nearly 10 years and has always been driven to help her clients. Esther strives to simplify the complex legal system and to empower her clients in their times of need. She understands that it can be a stressful and frightening ordeal and it is her priority to ensure that you understand and are kept informed every step of the way. She understands that communication is key.

Esther has helped clients that have been involved in car crashes, work injuries, slip and falls, victims of crime, defamation, medical negligence, asbestos and police abuse. She has also advised on situations of family matters, wills, estate challenges. Esther practices interstate including Canberra and Brisbane to represent clients that are seeking justice and fairness through court proceedings, arbitration, mediation and information settlement conferences. Esther has also appeared before the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, Supreme Court, Family Court of Australia and the Federal Courts of Australia.

Esther is also passionate about helping those whether it be someone who has been left out of the will or have received inadequate provision in the family estate and want to know more about their rights and whether or not they have a claim, or someone who is involved in a family dispute or seeking property, financial or child orders. Esther has also advised on migration matters for clients and is keen to assist you in this area.

Esther is also fluent in Korean and is an advocate within the Korean community as a volunteer solicitor for the Korean Consulate of Sydney.

Esther is a member of the City of Sydney Lawyers Society, St George Sutherland Law Society, the Korean Australian Lawyers Association and the Civil Litigation Young Lawyers Society.

David Weng

Solicitor

David specialises in insurance litigation, personal injury claims and challenging administrative decisions. David has worked for the largest insurance companies in Australia and in leading law firms in Sydney for over 12 years. His experience in working for both insurers and clients enables him to have a superior knowledge in representing his clients for their claims. David’s clients describe him as genuine, knowledgeable and ‘a top bloke’.

David first graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Health Science and Nursing and has worked in the past as a Nurse in various Hospitals in Sydney. Since then, he has completed a Doctor of Jurisprudence at the University of Technology, Sydney and has been admitted from 2013. Through his earlier work in the medical industry, David has a particular interest in medical disputes in court litigation and administrative reviews. David’s knowledge in law and nursing leads to early resolution of claims by dealing with the real issues in dispute.

David has run multiple cases in the Supreme and District Courts and has appeared unassisted in several interlocutory matters. He is technical, tactical and diligent and advocates a straightforward approach to resolving disputes.

Dave enjoys helping and navigating people through the complex legal minefield that is insurance law.  David is an advocate for social justice and has partook in several access to justice programs and hackathons held by the NSW Law Society.

He has published articles and given seminars on insurance law and apportionment and was a member of the now disbanded Medico Legal Committee of the NSW Law Society. He remains a member of the City of Sydney Lawyers Society, the NSWYL Civil Litigation Committee and the NSW Law Society.

Benefit Legal Lawyers David Weng has retained accredited specialist status with the Law Society of NSW in Personal Injury Law.

Specialist Accreditation is a structured peer to peer assessment process enabling legal practitioners to be recognised for their expertise. Each year the Law Society runs the accreditation program for a select number of areas of law. The program consists of meticulous assessments on both legal knowledge and its application in practice. For accreditation to be conferred the candidate must pass all assessments.

To retain their accreditation specialists must demonstrate their commitment to their accreditation through their work and by undertaking additional professional development in their area of accreditation.

David also speaks Mandarin.

Michał Matys

Solicitor

Michal graduated from the University of Bialystok (Poland), where he completed a Master of Laws (Honours) Degree in 2014.

After moving to Australia, he has undertaken the Diploma in Law course at the University of Sydney and was admitted as a Solicitor in June 2018.

Since June 2015, Michal has been practicing exclusively in Insurance Law with the main focus on Property Damage, Credit Hire Claims and Litigation. Michal is a passionate advocate with a client focused approach to litigation. He is praised by his clients for efficiency and time-management in quick and just resolution of court matters.

Michal has worked in various not-for-profit organisations, including The European Law Student’s Association (ELSA) and Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (ROCOR).

Michal also speaks fluent Polish and Russian.
